Essential Oils in Hops

Mycrene: anti bacterial, anti inflammatory & analgesic properties. Also sedative effects.

Humulene: anti inflammatory properties

Caryophyllene: anti inflammatory & analgesic properties and an antioxidant

Hops have been used medicinally for over 2000 years yet we only seem to think they have one purpose - beer. Perhaps in the near future the full benefits of hops will be known. Until then, I will continue to put them in my soap for everyone to enjoy.

Cheers!

WHY DO YOU USE HOPS IN YOUR SOAP?

The hop flower/cone, known as humulus lupulus, contains many beneficial components but we are going to look at four that make them a great soap additive.

Humulone- this is an alpha acid that is responsible for giving beer its bitter taste. It has also antibacterial properties.

Lupulone- this is a beta acid that also has antibacterial properties. Also sedative effect.

Xanthohumol- this is a flavonoid that has antibacterial properties and is being investigated for its antiviral properties. Also sedative effects.
